Here is a great combination … Ham Radio and Lighthouses! Do you like both or
you may be interested in lighthouses? Do you want to join a global event that
celebrates the heritage and importance of these maritime beacons? If so, you
won't want to miss the annual International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend
(ILLW) on August 16th and 17th from 10AM-4PM, celebrated right here in Rochester in Charlotte, one of Rochester's great destinations! The ILLW is one of the
most popular international amateur radio events in existence, attracting over 500
lighthouse entries from over 40 countries every year. It is not a contest but a fun
and friendly way to make contact with other ham radio operators around the
world who share a passion, fondness, or interests in lighthouses.

This year, you have a chance to participate in the ILLW at the Charlotte-Genesee
Lighthouse in Rochester, NY. This historic lighthouse was built in 1822 and is the
oldest active lighthouse on Lake Ontario. It is also a museum and a landmark
that offers stunning views of the lake and the city. The Rochester Amateur Radio
Association will be hosting the event and providing radios, antennas, and operators for anyone who wants to join in. You can operate on any authorized band or
mode you prefer. You can also enjoy a tour of the lighthouse and learn about its
history and significance. If you’ve been in the past, come back to meet old
friends, make new ones and chew the rag. Our summer months are short but this
event is memorable.
