DMR basics

The world of Digital Voice on Amateur repeaters is expanding rapidly and DMR is becoming one of the more popular modes. There are many Upstate NY repeaters now supporting DMR. We will try to keep links to the latest DMR information here.

Remember - DMR is Push Then Talk!

NOT - Push To Talk!

After you get going with DMR you might want to try this software if you have multiple radio code plugs. DMR Contact Manager is a custom-designed software package designed for use with Connect Systems CS700/CS701/CS750/CS800/CS801/CS800D radios, as well as the Tytera MD-380/390/390GPS, TYT MD2017/MD9600, AnyTone AT-D868UV and AT-D858, Retevis RT3, and similar radios that use the RDT/RDB file formats. These units are MOTOTRBO-compatible DMR mobile radios suitable for both commercial and amateur radio applications.

Contact Manager makes it easy to maintain channel, zone, contact and call group information in these radios. It is fully compatible with the Ham-Digital database system and allows instant codeplug updates from a wide variety of sources.

  4. Hello. Thank you for the information. I just passed my technician exam this past Saturday and I got my new callsign on Monday (KD2UPP) !!!! Very excited to give this a try! My very first radio will be arriving tomorrow! (TYT MD-UV380) I will be going camping in a week near Inlet NY and I see that they have a repeater there! I am very excited to try it out! So I only have 1 week to figure out DMR and codeplugs. Is there any codeplug available for NY state that includes the Adirondacks? My Home base is Memphis NY so I may need central NY repeaters as well. The area where I camp every year has absolutely zero cell coverage, so it will be great to be able to check in back home while I am there (as long as I can figure this all out before I go! LOL) Thanks for any help you can provide a newby like me!

  5. I made a csv file for my GD77 from the master list downloadable from radioid. Takes a bit of remembering how to use excel like a database but did import all NY PA and ON ids. I could prob make an ud file for other radios if I knew the format it expexts. (max # of ids, header or no header line ...) kd2une
