Canadian National Parks On The Air - 2019

Much like the NPOTA 2017 here in the USA, Canada will begin its own version on January 1st 2019.

From the CNPOTA web site:

Well hello hams from all over the world. Welcome to the Canadian version of working Parks and Historic Sites managed by Parks Canada. This is the brainchild of a small dedicated group of Hams in the Halifax, Nova Scotia area. We are all volunteers and we have a $0.00 budget to make all this happen.

We needed and received moral support from Radio Amateurs of Canada ( RAC ) and Parks Canada to welcome hams to come and operate at Historic Sites and Parks as listed elsewhere on this site. It is also very important to have Hams from all over the world chasing these adventurous operators  while operating in these Parks & Histor

NY QSO Party – October 21st, 2017

NY QSO Party – Get Ready for October 21!

by NYQP Team (from the 10/2017 RARA RAG newsletter)
It's all about NY on October 21, 2017 as radio amateurs from around the world get on the air to work all 62 NY counties, Chautauqua to Clinton, Niagara to Suffolk. A dozen or more mobile operators will take to the mean streets of NYC or the bucolic surrounds of the Southern Tier and North Country. Brave souls will sneak out to the woodlands to activate a rare county, Field Day style, as temps may dip into the 30's. And good, solid Elmers will open up their shacks to new hams and build excitement as the spotlight is on US!

The NYQP game is easy to play as all operating modes and bands are eligible. The QSO exchange is simple for NY operators: signal report and county. For those eager out-of-state ops wanting to work all 62 counties, they'll send a signal report and their state, province or DX.

AM Rally, April 1-3 ("No fooling")

Ever wonder what that “AM” button is for on your transceiver? Well, if you don’t know about full-carrier amplitude modulation (AM) or have never used it on the air, you’ll get the chance during the AM Rally, April 1-3, on the HF bands between 160 and 10 meters (except 30, 17, and 12 meters) plus 6 meters. Amateur Radio voice-mode transmissions on the HF bands into the 1960s were AM, the same mode that used to predominate in radio broadcasting. Single-sideband (SSB), a form of AM, gradually took over the phone bands, although not without some pushback!

Today, a group of dedicated radio amateurs keeps the magic flame alive, getting on AM frequently, and for many of them, AM is their primary operating mode. The AM Rally gives the uninitiated a chance to dip a toe into the pool, so to speak.

A cooperative event organized by AM, SSB, and, yes, even CW operators, the AM Rally aims to encourage fellow operators to take this “sister mode” for a spin, make a few contacts, and have a shot at earning some nice certificates.

Nice Article from the February RaRa Rag about this weekends VHF/UHF contest:

author: Jarred Jackson, KF2MR, Rochester VHF Group

The January VHF/UHF contest starts on January 30th at 2pm and runs through Sunday January 31st at 11pm. The purpose of the contest is to contact as many amateurs as possible on as many VHF/UHF and microwave bands as you can, using FM simplex (no repeaters), or narrow-band operating modes (SSB/CW). Two stations only need to exchange call signs and grid squares (see the map below).

NY QSO Party - October 17th

                            2015 New York QSO Party

Set aside the date: Saturday, October 17th, 10:00 AM ET
Phone – CW – RTTY/Digital

Since 2009 Rochester has been the home of the NY QSO Party. This is a great opportunity to be a station that everyone wants to work. All stations work only NY'ers!

All the information you need such as rules, FAQ's and awards are just a click
away... www.NYQP.org.

"But my station isn't good enough."  WRONG!

There is lots of activity on 40 and 80 meters so signals (yours and theirs) will be strong. QRP stations have made almost 600 QSO's in the NYQP. Activity on the upper bands grows every year.

Work a few, work a bunch. Operate from home or grab a friend and mobile a number of Counties (only if you can deal with being very popular). Can you work all 62 NY Counties? The fun is there waiting to happen!

If you expect to be operating mobile from a number of counties please post your plans to the NYQP website. More contacts, more fun! CQ NYQP!

More information and rules at: http://www.nyqp.org/

Thanks to the NYQSO Team for forwarding this notice on to us!
